Duke’s Ryan Kelly didn’t look like a guy who hadn’t played in two months.
The senior scored a career-high 36 points in his return from a foot injury that had sidelined him since January, helping third-ranked Duke beat fifth-ranked Miami, 79-76, on Saturday night in Durham, N.C.
Kelly knocked down 10 of 14 shots — including 7-of-9 accuracy on 3-pointers — for the Blue Devils (25-4 overall, 12-4 Atlantic Coast Conference), who avenged a blowout road loss in January by grinding out a tough win in Cameron Indoor Stadium.
Shane Larkin scored 25 points to lead the Hurricanes (23-5, 14-2), who missed two 3s in the final seconds to tie it.
No. 10 Louisville 58, at No. 12 Syracuse 53: Luke Hancock hit a 3-pointer from the corner to break a tie with 50 seconds to go for the Cardinals (24-5, 12-4 Big East), who avenged a loss to the Orange (22-7, 10-6) earlier this season.
Russ Smith led Louisville with 18 points, Hancock had 12, all on 3s, and Gorgui Dieng finished with 11 points and 14 rebounds.
C.J. Fair had 19 points to lead the Orange.
No. 13 Kansas State 64, at Baylor 61: Rodney McGruder hit a 3-pointer at the buzzer and the Wildcats (24-5, 13-3 Big East) pulled out a victory after a failed inbounds pass gave them one more chance.
Instead of settling for overtime after K-State’s Shane Southwell missed with 1 second to go, the Bears (17-12, 8-8 Big 12) brought Jacob Neubert off the bench to try a length-of-the-court inbounds pass.
But the ball went out of bounds without being touched, so the Wildcats got it under their own basket and McGruder won it.
At VCU 84, No. 20 Butler 52: Troy Daniels scored 14 of his 20 points in the first half and the Rams (23-6, 11-3 Atlantic 10) overwhelmed the Bulldogs (22-7, 9-5) with full-court pressure defense.
Roosevelt Jones scored 14 points and Khyle Marshall had 13 for Butler.
