Black Hills Audubon Society is offering a beginning birding class that begins Saturday.
This course, taught by professional biologist Kelly McAllister, will provide an introduction to birding with an emphasis on developing identification skills.
Other topics include birding tools, including binoculars and field guides; an introduction to birding terminology; and basic bird biology as it relates to identification. The course is designed primarily for beginning birders but should be useful for many mid-level birders as well.
The class runs six consecutive Saturdays from 9-11 a.m. through April 13. Two of the six dates will extend into the afternoon to allow for field study. Those dates will be determined at the first class.
Courses will be at the Education Center at Nisqually Wildlife Refuge.
The book “Finding Your Wings” by Burt Guttman will be the text used and is included in the course fee. The cost of the class is $85; $70 without the book.
