A 28-year-old woman has been charged with stealing credit cards, jewelry and cash from residents of a Puyallup retirement home last year.
Not guilty pleas were entered on the woman’s behalf Monday in Pierce County Superior Court to four counts of trafficking in stolen property, four counts of theft, and one count each of residential burglary and identity theft.
Prosecutors say the woman claimed to be the granddaughter of one of the elderly residents at Sunset Gardens to gain access to several apartments at the retirement home.
She allegedly pawned some of the stolen jewelry at local pawn shops, and police said a surveillance camera caught her using a stolen debit card at a nearby deli. One resident, a 94-year-old man, said the woman made off with more than $10,000 in jewelry.
Police identified her last summer and requested an arrest warrant, prosecutors said. She was arrested Saturday and booked into the Pierce County Jail.
Bail was set at $30,000.
