Spokane police say that an item initially described by a passer-by as looking like a pipe bomb turned out to be a marijuana accessory.

KXLY-TV says the police bomb squad blew up the bong found Tuesday in an alley. It was described as a section of black PVC pipe with white end caps.

Police cordoned off the area while they investigated. People who lived across the alley were told to stay inside.

By Tuesday afternoon, police spokeswoman Monique Cotton confirmed the device was "a piece of drug paraphernalia associated with marijuana."
