A wood-fired pizza restaurant is expected to built near the Southridge sports complex after a land deal approved Tuesday by the Kennewick City Council.
The council voted unanimously to sell 2.8 acres at the corner of Highway 395 and Hildebrand Road for almost $413,000.
The buyer, H & H Northwest Companies of Portland, intends to build a Rock Wood-fired Pizza & Spirits restaurant.
"I've eaten at these restaurants and think this will be a great compliment to the area and to the sports complex. And it will bring more dollars to Kennewick," said Councilman Bob Parks.
The pizza chain is based in Sumner and has 11 franchises in Washington, all on the west side, two in Oregon, three in Colorado and two in Alberta, Canada.
The Rock Wood-fired Pizza & Spirits is a casual family restaurant serving pizza, pasta, burgers and sandwiches.

-- Kennewick City Councilman Paul Parish was honored for his almost 35 years of service as a volunteer for the Tri-City Water Follies.
John Mostoller, Follies hydroplane race director, surprised him with a plaque at the council meeting.
Parish, who worked as pit boss for the races, stepped down from the event this year. "I'm slowing down a bit, time for someone younger," he said.
-- The council awarded a five-year, $287,152 contract to Apollo Mechanical Contractors of Kennewick for maintenance of the city's heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems.
They also awarded a $269,665 contract to Big D's Construction of Pasco for installing about 2,278 feet of 18-inch water main along Sherman Street and Ridgeline Drive to West 31st Avenue. The contract also includes widening the roads and patching the asphalt.
-- The council held a public hearing on vacating an unused 15-foot sanitary sewer easement at 1022 Columbia Center Boulevard. The easement isn't necessary now that the sewer mainline has been relocated into the city's right-of-way. There were no comments and the council voted unanimously to vacate the easement.
