The Mustard Seed Project kicks off a series of three movies, to be shown the next three Sundays in the newly-renovated Brones Room at the Key Center Library, with a screening of the film "Stephane Grappelli: A Life in the Jazz Century" on Sunday at 2 p.m.
The fifth annual Silver Cinema Series is free to the public, with refreshments provided and a discussion of the film after each screening. The documentary this Sunday details the 77-year career of Grappelli, a renowned jazz violinist.
The series will continue on March 17 with a presentation by local filmmakers Cathy Stevulak and Leonard Hill, who will screen a trailer for their documentary "Threads - The Art and Life of Surayia Rahman" and discuss the film, which is still in production. A screening of the documentary "Her Name is Zelda," about the eccentric New York City social icon Zelda Kaplan, will follow.
The Silver Cinema Series will conclude on March 24 with the documentary "Dalai Lama: The Soul of Tibet."
When the Key Center Library reopened in February after nearly three months of renovations, Friends of Key Center Library member Neil Van Der Voom told the Gateway that one of the goals of the renovation was to provide more space for movies and partnerships with groups like The Mustard Seed Project. The expanded multipurpose Brones Room was a centerpiece of the renovation project, which included the installation of a large high-definition television for film screenings.
