PROSSER -- Ava Tolcacher, 18, has been named Youth of the Year for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Benton and Franklin County.

The award recognizes outstanding contributions to family, school and community and the Boys & Girls Clubs, according to a release. Prosser High School senior will now compete for the state title and a $1,000 scholarship.

This is the second year in a row that a youth from the Prosser Boys & Girls Club has won the area award.

Last year, Brenna Cherry was the first youth from Eastern Washington to win the state award and was runner-up at a regional event in California.
