The Denver Broncos announced they have released linebacker D.J. Williams and quarterback Caleb Hanie on Monday.

"We appreciate the contributions made by D.J. Williams during his time with the Broncos," said Broncos executive vice president of football operations John Elway. "He was a solid player with this team for a number of years, showing a lot of versatility at linebacker. Our organization wishes D.J. all the best going forward."

Williams, 30, played in seven games last season before being suspended by the NFL for failing a mandatory league drug test.

Over a nine-year career, all with Denver, Williams has recorded 824 tackles, 20 1/2 sacks and two interceptions.

Hanie, 27, was inactive for all 16 games in 2012. In 10 games -- including four starts -- with the Bears (2008-11) and Broncos, he has 679 passing yards, three touchdowns, 10 interceptions and a 50.9 completion percentage.
