Swan found in February: Fish and Game officials said Monday that the youths were responsible for poaching a trumpeter swan at a pond near Bent Lane west of Star. They were not not identified. A fourth was involved but not charged, authorities said. A shotgun and .22 rifle were seized as evidence.

No hunting: The trumpeter swan is the largest in the world and is off-limits in Idaho.

Another bird? Investigators said one of the kids also poached a great blue heron and was cited for possession of a nongame, protected bird.

Reward, publicity: Fish and Game's call for public assistance generated numerous tips. Rewards were offered by Citizens Against Poaching and The Humane Society, among others.

Five citations, four warnings: Charges included illegal taking of a migratory bird, aid in commission of a misdemeanor and hunting without a license.
