Hanford High School's varsity cheer squad will have a send-off celebration today before it heads to the USA National Cheerleading Championship on Wednesday.
The squad's Purple Tumbling Team and Gold Non-Tumbling Team each earned first-place trophies at the recent United Cheerleading Association Northwest Championship.
The teams will show off their routines during the send-off from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Hanford High's Eyrie Gym.
Hanford High School came out on top at the Department of Energy's Regional Science Bowl at Washington State University Tri-Cities on Saturday.
The members of Hanford's winning team are Sriram Katipamula, Chenguang Li, Sathvik Ramanan, Sean Thompson and Jonah Bartrand.
They went up against Yakima's West Valley High School in the final round, who for the second year, took second place. Another team from Hanford took third place with Woodinville High School out of Seattle placing fourth.
An all-star showcase suddenly turned into a real basketball game.
Knowledge Bowl teams from both high schools in Richland have qualified for the Washington State Knowledge Bowl.
Hanford High School's team took first at the Southeastern Washington competition. Team members are Jonah Bartrand, Sriram Katipamula, Sathvik Ramanan, Konrad Krogstad, Xie Xi and Chenchen Li.
Richland High School's team qualified at the Eastern Washington Super Regional by taking second. Team members include Drew Saunders, Scott Yoshida, Antony Chen, Argo Datta and Jesse Liston.
The Hanford High School Falcon Fever Dance Team is offering a dance workshop for elementary students and a tryout clinic for middle-school students.
The workshop and clinic are scheduled for 9:30 a.m. to noon Feb. 23 in the school gym, 450 Hanford St., Richland.
Elementary students will learn a dance routine and participate in fun activities. Middle school students will learn a dance routine and other skills that will prepare them for dance team tryouts in the future.
Kyle Witzel is the designated 60-yard shooter for the Sedro-Woolley High School boys soccer team.
