According to a report released by AAA on Monday, the average gas price in the state of Washington reached $3.81. The price has increased 25 cents in the last month.
A gallon of gas goes for $3.88 in Tacoma, the report said.
"It's killing me," Dominica Goode said.
Goode was filling up at the Shell gas station on the intersection of Pacific Avenue and South 38th Street in Tacoma on Tuesday morning.
Goode commutes from Tacoma to Seattle five times a week and said she has tried carpooling with her husband who works in Tukwila, but their schedules didn't line up. Goode and her husband now drive separately.
Danielle Norfleet, the mother of a family of six, relies on her Fred Meyer rewards card to pay for gas in her 10-miles-per-gallon SUV.
"It's bad. It's horrible," Norfleet said.
Norfleet said she receives a discount of 50 cents to $1 each time she pumps gas.
A Shell employee at the Pacific Avenue location said she was contractually unable to say if the increasing gas prices have decreased business at the gas station.
Between 7 and 8 a.m. Tuesday, six drivers pulled into the south Tacoma gas station where a gallon of gas cost $3.91, 3 cents above the Tacoma average.
