Volosozhar, Trankov place first in pairs short program

The Russian tandem of Tatiana Volosozhar and Maxim Trankov placed first in the pairs competition of Wednesday's short program at the World Figure Skating Championships.

The Russian tandem of Tatiana Volosozhar and Maxim Trankov placed first in the pairs competition of Wednesday's short program at the World Figure Skating Championships.

Volosozhar and Trankov earned a score of 75.84.

The Canadian duo of Meagan Duhamel and Eric Radford came in second place with a score of 73.61, edging Germany's Aliona Savchenko and Robin Szolkowy, who posted a score of 73.47.

Americans Alexa Scimeca and Chris Knierim finished 12th.
