According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Detroit Lions free agent defensive end Cliff Avril is on his way to Seattle for a visit.

According to Albert Breer of the NFL Network, Avril is expected to sign a deal with the Seahawks when he lands in the Pacific Northwest.

Wow. After making the big trade for Percy Harvin, it appears the Seahawks wasted little time attacking the team’s most pressing need this offseason — improving the pass rush defensively.

At 6-3 and 260 pounds, Avril, who turns 27 in April, fits the profile. He finished with 9.5 sacks and two forced fumbles in 2012, and has 39.5 sacks in his first five seasons in the league. However, Avril also has benefited from playing with one of the more dominant defensive front in the NFL, including defensive tackles Ndamukong Suh and Nick Fairley, and defensive end Kyle Vanden Bosch.

Atlanta Falcons free agent defensive end John Abraham visited Seattle last week before the free agency period began.
