A trooper accidentally shot himself in the thigh while doing training exercises at the State Patrol Training Academy in Shelton today.
The 46-year-old man, who has worked for the State Patrol for 13 years, is in satisfactory condition at Mason General Hospital, State Patrol Public Information Officer Freddy Williams said.
The bullet entered the troopers thigh when he had an unintentional discharge about 3:45 p.m., Williams said.
No one else was injured.
The trooper works in the commercial vehicle division out of Poulsbo, Williams said.
The quarterly firearm training exercises are required for all troopers, Williams said.
It hasnt been determined when the trooper will be allowed to return to work, a decision that will depend on his recovery time and an investigation by the State Patrol, Williams said.
