The Pierce Raiders women's softball program doesn't want a repeat of the 2012 season.
The Raiders finished in second place in the NWAACC West Division with an overall record of 21-23. The previous five seasons saw the Raiders earn first place in the West Division. Raiders' sixth year head coach Mark Edmonston expects his team to return to the form in 2013. Thus far, the Raiders are off to a good start, compiling an overall record of 5-3 in the first eight games of the 2013 season. The Raiders have eight returning players off of the 2012 team.
"It makes my life a lot easier as a coach when you're heavy in sophomores instead of freshman. The difference is just night and day," Edmonston said. "In 2011 we had eight returning players as well. We have been here before."
Edmonston said his team talked about expectations for the 2013 season during fall practices this past September.
"We were on the field for about 15 minutes and were just talking as a team. The team looked around and then started discussing this coming season. We understand and know that we are going to be good this year," Edmonston said.
