A Richland Boy Scout troop that sent care packages to soldiers was presented Tuesday with an American flag flown in combat in Afghanistan.
Troop 249 prepared and sent a number of packages to the 168th Brigade Support Battalions Alpha Company, said J.R. Freeman-Pollard, a Boy Scouts of America unit commissioner.
Combat flags typically are reserved for dignitaries or family members of fallen soldiers, however the battalion was moved by the care packages and wanted to show their gratitude, Freeman-Pollard said in a news release.
The soldiers reportedly petitioned for the flag to be presented to Troop 249, and were approved by officials in Washington, D.C.
