Richland teacher named top DECA adviser in state

A Richland High School teacher has been named the top DECA adviser in the state.

Stephanie Schirm, a marketing teacher at the school, was named 2013 Advisor of the Year by Washington State DECA, which is an international organization for marketing students, according to a release.

The Richland School District said Richland High’s DECA chapter has accomplished a lot under Schirm’s guidance and her students are highly regarded for their commitment to the community.

    McKinnis has been a key part of the science, technology, engineering, art and mathematics, or STEAM, program at Three Rivers HomeLink, which is an alternative school with about 400 students.

    Chiawana High School in Pasco is holding an Every 15 Minutes event.

    The safe driving event will be from 8:53 to 10:25 a.m. today at the high school, 8125 W. Argent Road, Pasco.

    The event is sponsored by a State Farm Shift into Safety grant and the high school's DECA club.
