Saturday marks the 10th anniversary of the death of Rachel Corrie, an Olympia activist killed in the Gaza Strip after standing in front of a bulldozer.
Corrie was standing in front of the dozer to protect a home about to be demolished when she was run over and killed.
A series of events will mark the 10th anniversary of Corrie’s death, including:
TODAY
Event: Where Should the Birds Fly?
When: 6:30 p.m.–8:30 p.m.
Where: Capitol Theater, 206 Fifth Ave. SE, Olympia
Cost: Tickets $5.50 for Olympia Film Society members, $8.50 for the community.
Summary: A film screening and discussion with the Gaza filmmaker Fida Qishta and Olympia mental health therapist Sonja Wentz.
SATURDAY
1–2 p.m.: Rally at Sylvester Park: Stand for Justice: Freedom for Palestinians and Accountability for U.S. Foreign Military Funding
2:30– 4 p.m.: Rachel Corrie and Freedom for Palestine: 10 years – Looking Back, Moving Forward
Phyllis Bennis of the Institute of Policy Studies and Ramzy Baroud of The Palestine Chronicle speak at the Olympia Ballroom, 116 Legion Way SE.
5–7 p.m.: Community potluck with music and dance.
