A 16-year-old girl struck by a vehicle Thursday night in a hit-and-run collision is in serious condition but expected to survive, Puyallup police Capt. Scott Engle said.
No one witnessed the crash, which occurred about 7:30 p.m. in the 600 block of West Stewart Avenue NW, but surveillance footage from a nearby grocery store shows a large white SUV fleeing eastbound on West Stewart Avenue. It could be a General Motors vehicle, police said.
The vehicle likely has damage to the right front of the SUV and possibly a dent in the hood.
Engle said the girl was inside the Golden Rule Grocery and crossed the street in the crosswalk at the intersection of 7th Street NW and West Stewart Avenue NW when she was struck.
Anyone with information on the incident is asked to call the Puyallup Police Department’s tip line at 253-770-3343.
Police said they hope to release surveillance video later today.
