A man suspected of fatally shooting a teenage boy during a Federal Way house party in January 2010 has been arrested at the border between Mexico and San Diego.
Edgar Daniel Sanchez, 24, entered the San Ysidro Port of Entry from Mexico at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, according to officials with U.S. Customs and Border Patrol. Sanchez told officers that he wanted to turn himself in and officers were able to check law enforcement databases to discover that Sanchez, a U.S. ctizen, was wanted in connection with the Federal Way slaying, federal officials said.
A fugitive warrant was active for Sanchez, listing his bail at $1 million. Sanchez was booked into the San Diego County Jail and is awaiting extradition, customs officials said.
Sanchez, who goes by the street name “Sharky,” is accused of shooting Irving Plascencia on Jan. 17, 2010, during a fight over a woman, authorities said. A second person was shot during the melee and survived.
Police were called to a house in the 30800 block of 20th Avenue South just before 4:30 a.m. that day. Witnesses told police that a party at the house went late into the night and at some point, an fight erupted in the front yard and shots were fired, according to police. The shooting victims ran into the house and the gunman fled in a car.
Prosecutors say the 19-year-old woman at the center of the fight told people at the party she was having problems with Plascencia and another man. She complained to her boyfriend, Christian Cervantes, and a fight broke out. Cervantes and Chavez left and returned later with several other people, including Sanchez, prosecutors said. The shooting happened a short time later.
Plascencia died at the scene.
Federal Way police spokeswoman Cathy Schrock said on Friday that officers sent two detectives to San Diego on Friday to interview Sanchez.
