Seattle University’s dream of an automatic NCAA tournament berth kept slipping away late in the second half against Idaho in Saturday’s Western Athletic Conference tournament title game in Las Vegas.
But after trailing by eight with just over a minute to go, the Redhawks had two chances to force overtime.
Top-seeded Seattle (20-10) misfired on two desperation 3-pointers in the final seconds, one by Sylvia Shephard and one by Daidra Brown, and went home without a tournament title, losing a 67-64 decision to third-seeded Idaho (17-15).
Not even conference player of the year Kacie Sowell, who had 17 points and 15 rebounds, could save the Redhawks.

No. 15 Delaware 75, Hoftstra 54: Elena Delle Donne had 21 points and 13 rebounds, and the Blue Hens (29-3) breezed past the Lions (14-17) to earn a third straight berth in today’s Colonial Athletic Association title game in Upper Marlboro, Md., against Drexel.

Ki-Ki Moore had 22 points and 11 rebounds and Fresno State scored 23 straight points en route to a 76-70 victory over San Diego in the championship game of the Mountain West Conference tournament. … Kenzie De Boer scored 19 points, and Montana (24-7) punched its ticket to the NCAA tournament with a 56-43 victory over Northern Colorado (20-12) in the Big Sky Conference championship in Missoula, Mont. … Other schools that earned automatic tournament berths by winning conference championships were: Hampton (Mid-Eastern Athetic); Prairie View A&M (Southwestern Athletic); Oral Robert (Southland); Cal Poly (Big West); Navy (Patriot League); Albany (America East); St. Joseph’s (Atlantic 10); Central Michigan (Mid-American), and Tulsa (Conference USA).
