PUYALLUP: Aylen Junior High turning 50

Aylen Junior High School will celebrate its 50th anniversary at an open house from noon to 2 p.m. April 27. The event will include a slideshow, historical displays, building tour, time capsule dedication and songs from each of the past five decades. The public is invited to the school, 101 15th St. SW in Puyallup.

The committee is inviting any alumni who sang in the school choir to sing with the anniversary choir. Send your name, contact information and the years and part sung in the choir to aylen.alumni.choir@gmail.com. The committee also seeks alumni and former staff members to share artifacts or photos. Send scanned copies to aylenfalcons@gmail.com by April 12.

    BELLINGHAM - An effort to help a Squalicum High School teacher who was diagnosed with cancer has led to the creation of a fund for other teachers affected by the disease and a multischool concert Thursday, May 16.

    The One Voice Concert will start at 7 p.m. in the gym at Squalicum High School, 3773 E. McLeod Road, and will feature performances from more than 300 band, choir and orchestra students.

    The concert is collaboration by Squalicum, Sehome and Bellingham high schools and will include special alumni guest performances.

    The festival begins at 7 p.m. in the Hermiston High School gym, 600 S. First, Hermiston.

    The event will showcase performances from the band and choir groups of the high school and Sandstone and Armand Larive middle schools.
