A man brutally attacked a daycare worker in Tacoma this morning as she opened the business, police said.

The assault happened about 6:40 a.m. at Tender Heart Learning Center, 8018 Pacific Ave.

The man was waiting outside when the woman arrived and told her he wanted to enroll his child, police spokeswoman Loretta Cool said. The employee let him in to start the paperwork.

“He proceeded to brutally attack her,” Cool said. “She was severely beaten.”

Another employee showing up to work interrupted the assault and the man fled south on Pacific Avenue.

The woman was taken to an area hospital with serious injuries. She is expected to survive.

The suspect is described as black, in his mid-20s, about 5-feet-6 with a very narrow face and small afro.
