The City of Puyallup's utility rate increased by 2.6 percent, effective March 1. The affected utilities comprise water, wastewater and storm water. On residents' bimonthly utility bill, the rate adjustment equals an increase of $4.34. Residents will see the new rate reflected on utility bills received on or after May 10, 2013.

According to a City of Puyallup press release, utility rates were last increased in November 2008. The rate adjustment is based on the annual cost of inflation according to the most recent Engineering News-Record Construction Cost Index. An increase helps the city with maintaining long-term infrastructure repair and replacement.

Annual rate adjustment changes must be ratified by the Puyallup City Council. This latest rate change was approved in Ordinance No. 3028 in January of this year.
