  • News Tribune Adventure writer Craig Hill's new hiking partner, Fat Stanley, traveled with him on several day hikes last summer as he trained for the Wonderland Trail. Fat Stanley consisted of two 7.5-pound weight plates, a few of the 10 essentials and traveled in Hill's pack along with a couple gallons of water. The extra weight in Hill's pack helped prepare him for the 93-mile hike around Mount Rainier that climbs more than 22,000 vertical feet. (Only Fat Stanley's lighter parts made the Wonderland trip.
