Congregation Beth Israel is constructing a new 26,892-square-foot building at 751 San Juan Blvd. near Bellingham.

The project is expected to cost $2.6 million, according to a Whatcom County building permit. The project architect is RMC Architects.

The design involves a primary worship space and social hall on the main entry level, and educational and meeting rooms in a daylight basement and a small upper level.
