The Olympia School District will host a community forum about construction of the new Olympia Regional Learning Academy (ORLA) at 6:30 p.m. today at the Knox Administrative Center, 1113 Legion Way SE.
Construction of the 66,000-square-foot facility is set to begin during the summer or early fall at the old McKinley Elementary School site, 1412 Boulevard Road SE, on the corner of Boulevard Road and 15th Avenue SE in Olympia.
ORLA is part of the school district and serves more than 500 students through its online school, home school and Montessori programs. It is currently housed at the old John Rogers Elementary School.
In a letter sent to residents in the neighborhood where the new school will be built, Olympia Superintendent Dick Cvitanich wrote that the $30 million facility will feature 180 parking spots, athletic fields, playground equipment, a covered play shed and will be a net-zero facility — it will produce as much energy as it uses.
It will be paid for through a construction bond approved by voters in February 2012.
The meeting is “an opportunity to review the latest plans and ask questions of district staff and the project’s … team,” Cvitanich wrote.
