Kennewick — Benton County commissioners plan to invite a national nonprofit to research the possibility of generating local money for conservation projects in the community.
The money could come from sales or property tax measures or other sources. Officials from The Trust for Public Land, which helps communities around the county with conservation financing, spoke during a special commissioners meeting Wednesday.
Commissioners in a unanimous vote agreed to send a letter inviting the trust to provide technical assistance. Members of local groups such as Friends of Badger Mountain attended and cheered the decision.
