A man who asked to see surveillance footage of a hit-and-run accident that seriously injured a teenage girl is not a suspect, Puyallup police said Wednesday.
Police released the man’s photograph Tuesday in an attempt to identify him. They thought he might have information about the March 16 crash that injured a 16-year-old girl as she walked in a marked crosswalk in the 600 block of West Stewart Avenue.
The man grabbed the attention of police when he walked into the nearby Golden Rule Grocery Store and asked to see its surveillance footage of the crash. He also asked questions about whether its cameras could capture license plate numbers of cars passing by outside.
The man spoke with investigators Tuesday after learning police were looking for him.
“This subject has cooperated and appears unrelated to the hit-and-run incident,” police Capt. Scott Engle said.
The driver’s identity remains unknown. The girl underwent surgery this week and remains in the hospital.
