Love motorcycles?
Don’t miss the Washington State History Museum’s show “Let’s Ride,” with racers and touring bikes, commercial and police vehicles, and chopped, personalized and celebrity-owned machines.
You also will want to add to your calendar three free opportunities connected to the show.
First up is a free motorcycle movie. This Saturday afternoon the museum will screen “The Great Escape,” a 1963 classic with daredevil Steve McQueen, Richard Attenborough and James Garner.
It’s based on a true World War II story of Allied prisoners of war who plotted the escape of hundreds of POWs from a camp in Germany. The movie features plenty of daring feats, including McQueen’s famous motorcycle fence-jump.
The screening begins at 3 p.m. Saturday, and it’s free with paid admission to the museum ($9.50/$7/free for ages 5 and younger).
One way to see the whole show for free is to show up on the third Thursday, when museum admission is free from 2-8 p.m. (Tacoma Art Museum and the Museum of Glass are free from 5-8 p.m.) The next one will be April 18.
And lastly, if you’re a member of the Tacoma Public Library, you can check out a Museum Pass just as you would a book or DVD, for one week at a time. The pass gets as many as two adults and two family members younger than 18 into the museum for free. Passes are available at most library branches.
