The state Department of Transportation is reporting that a collision on northbound Interstate 5 is blocking the exit to the Port of Tacoma Road this morning.
The Port of Tacoma halted all operations this morning after a longshore worker died at a port terminal. Early results from the Pierce County Medical Examiner's office show the worker might have suffered a heart attack while working on a trailer at the port’s APM Terminal. The worker fell from a 5-foot ladder.
The Port of Tacoma’s principal business, container shipments, rose by nearly 50 percent in February this year, new statistics from the port show.
A key Port of Tacoma container terminal was reopened Tuesday afternoon after a group of retired longshore union workers removed pickets from the facility on Port of Tacoma Road. Those picketers had shut down the Washington United Terminal early Tuesday to force some action on their complaints regarding the Pacific Maritime Association’s alleged failure to pay retiree medical bills.
