Two people were shot in the head while they slept at a Puyallup home early Sunday morning, according to Puyallup police.
Both victims were taken to Tacoma General Hospital, and were described to be in "grave condition." The woman has since died, according to Deputy Chief Dave McDonald.
Police said a 69-year-old man called and told them he shot his adult son and daughter at a house on the 1500 block of 5th St SE in Puyallup.
The man was taken into custody. The man's wife as well as two children under the age of ten were removed safely from the house. Police believe one of the shooting victims is the father of the children.
"The grandparents were taking care of these kids," McDonald said. "He's just, as far as we knew, the grandpa."
Police have responded multiple times to the home for domestic violence-related disputes, McDonald said.
"It always involved the children or (adult grandchildren) getting into it with them," he said.
"I know they were frustrated," McDonald said about the grandparents.
A neighbor said the young children live with their parental grandparents.
"They were playing all day yesterday," neighbor Beau Nye said of the boys. "Chasing each other and laughing. They were having a great time. "
Puyallup police are investigating the crime scene.
