UPDATE: A third man was arrested in connection with the shooting, and police are looking for another suspect, police spokeswoman Loretta Cool said.
Two men have been arrested in connection with the shooting of another man found dead in a Tacoma motel last week.
Daniel Michael Davis, 25, and Marcus Reed, 24, made their initial appearances in Pierce County Superior Court on Wednesday.
They were ordered held pending formal charges later this week. Court Commissioner Meagan Foley set Davis’ bail at $1 million, Reed’s at $2 million.
Officers responding to a call of shots fired about 12:15 a.m. Friday found Donald Phily, 42, dead in a room at the Morgan Motel on Pacific Avenue. Police spokeswoman Loretta Cool said it was a robbery gone wrong, but declined to discuss the investigation.
Reed was arrested about 12:45 p.m. Tuesday during a traffic stop in the 5200 block of Bridgeport Avenue and was booked into Pierce County Jail on suspicion of murder, robbery and unlawful possession of a firearm. Deputy prosecutor Phil Sorensen said Wednesday that Reed is the person suspected of shooting Phily.
Reed is charged with two counts of felony harassment on an unrelated case. He allegedly threatened to shoot a nurse and a security guard at a local hospital earlier this year because he was not satisfied with the care that a friend was receiving, court records show.
Davis was arrested Monday on a warrant from an unrelated case. The nature of his possible involvement in Phily’s death has not been divulged.
