Man sentenced in Pierce County court for 2000 kidnapping, assault

April 5, 2013

A 72-year-old man was sentenced to three life terms in state prison Thursday for the rape and torture of a Tacoma woman 13 years ago.

A jury in 2010 convicted Raymond Reynoldson of first-degree attempted rape, first-degree kidnapping and second-degree assault for abducting a woman working as a prostitute, tying her up against her will, physically assaulting her and attempting to rape her in March 2000, court records show.

The naked woman escaped by crashing through a window in the house where Reynoldson lived.

Reynoldson committed the crime a year after escaping from prison, where he’d served eight years of a 15-year sentence for another sex crime. He remained at large until being captured in Oregon in 2005. He then was sent to federal prison on another charge before being brought to Pierce County to face the counts from 2000.

His latest sentencing was delayed after he unsuccessfully appealed his 2010 jury trial, court records show.
