Tacoma police have arrested a 28-year-old man suspected of killing his girlfriend’s 3-year-old son.

The toddler was identified as Terric Davis of Tacoma by the Pierce County Medical Examiner’s Office. He died of blunt force trauma to his head and abdomen, and investigators ruled his death a homicide.

The man suspected of killing him was booked Wednesday morning into Pierce County Jail on suspicion of homicide by abuse. He is expected to be charged Thursday.

The boy’s 23-year-old mother brought him to Mary Bridge Children’s Hospital about 11:15 p.m. Tuesday because the child was having trouble breathing, police said.

Doctors saw signs of abuse and notified police, who went to the couple’s home in the 7600 block of Pacific Avenue and arrested the man.

The boy died shortly after arriving at the hospital.

A 2-year-old girl was removed from the home and placed into protective custody, police said.
