A public memorial for a Tacoma firefighter who died on the scene of a medical emergency will be May 31 at the Tacoma Dome Convention Center.

Albert Nejmeh, 59, died on duty Tuesday of an apparent heart attack. He worked for the department 12 years.

On Friday, a motorcade escorted his body from Mountain View Funeral Home in Lakewood to Seattle-Tacoma International Airport. The body of Nejmeh, accompanied by fellow firefighter Dan Stevens, was flown to his hometown in New Jersey.

The escort passed by Station 8 on South Alaska Street, where Nejmeh worked on Ladder 2.

Nejmeh will be buried Monday.
