Mariners option Brandon Maurer to Tacoma, recall Alex Liddi

Staff writerMay 29, 2013

The Mariners are making a roster move. You know how I know? I saw Alex Liddi walking down the street in San Diego looking for a place to have lunch.

Liddi said he’s been called up. And I recommended the Broken Yolk for lunch …. great breakfast burrito.

Liddi will replace right-hander Brandon Maurer on the roster. Maurer struggled again last night in the Mariners loss to the Padres. He needs to go down to Tacoma and kind of find himself and his command. It’s not the end of his career. It happens to a lot of pitchers.

Maurer isn’t scheduled to pitch till Sunday in Minnesota so the Mariners have time to make a decision with the pitching staff. With Justin Smoak battling a sore oblique and Michael Morse straining a quad last night, they need the extra bat. Liddi can play both first and third base and even some left field if needed in an emergency.
