MOUNT VERNON: DOT revises detour around Skagit bridge

June 15, 2013

Washington State Department of Transportation officials said Friday that they are revising the southbound alternate route for Interstate 5 in Mount Vernon and Burlington this weekend because of several large community events. Drivers should expect extra delays.

The Ride to Conquer Cancer, a two-day charity ride from Surrey, British Columbia, to the Seattle area, will draw up to 3,000 cyclists through the area. And Burlington is hosting its 76th annual Berry Dairy Days on Saturday and Sunday.

Drivers taking Exit 230 onto westbound state Route 20 in Burlington will see signs directing them to use Best Road to travel to southbound I-5 via Fir Island Road (state Route 534).

The DOT website has additional information on the bridge project and detours around the state at www.wsdot.wa.gov. For more information on the bike ride, go to va13.conquercancer.ca.
