A 4-year-old Lacey boy was in critical condition when he was flown Saturday night to Tacoma by medical helicopter after he was found in an apartment complex swimming pool.
Lacey Police said police and medics from Thurston County’s Fire District 3 were dispatched at 3:55 p.m. after receiving a report of a child drowning in the pool of the Diamond Head Apartments at 1510 College St. SE, Lacey. When they arrived, Lacey police officers found a father administering CPR to his 4-year-old son. An officer took over the CPR until medics arrived.
The child was transported first to Providence St. Peter Hospital in Olympia, and then airlifted to Mary Bridge Hospital in Tacoma.
At the time of the airlift from St. Peter, the child’s condition was critical, police said. An updated condition report on the child was not available at deadline.
The preliminary investigation by police indicates the father fell asleep and, upon awakening, noticed the child had left the apartment. They said he immediately searched the apartment grounds and located the child, unresponsive, in the pool. The father retrieved the child from the water, carried him to his apartment, notified neighbors and began CPR, police said.
