No one aboard the Victoria Clipper III was injured Friday night when a fire in the engine compartment forced the catamaran to divert to Shilshole Bay Marina.
The 113-foot ship was just off Edmonds as it returned from a daylong trip to the San Juan Islands. That’s when a fire was reported in some insulation surrounding one of the turbine engines, according to Clipper Vacations spokeswoman Janis Smith. The crew sealed off the compartment and deployed a chemical fire suppression system.
The company sent buses to take the 159 passengers back to the Seattle pier, Smith said. The cause of the fire was under investigation. The Associated Press
