Man suspected of taking Tacoma store's cash register at gunpoint arrested

June 16, 2013

Police took a man into custody after an armed robbery at a Tacoma shop Saturday night.

The incident happened before 8:30 p.m. at a Beer and Smoke Shop in the 7000 block of Sixth Avenue.

According to police, a man walked into the shop, brandished a handgun and asked for cash from the clerk.

Police said the man ended up taking the cash register when he couldn’t get the clerk to open the register.

The man went out of the shop and got into a vehicle, fleeing the scene, officers said.

Tacoma police caught up with the vehicle, but the man fled on foot, they said. Officers arrested the driver and a passenger inside the vehicle.

Police said the man is only connected to the robbery at the smoke shop.

Earlier Saturday, three convenience and grocery stores in Tacoma were also robbed by a suspect police said was at large that evening.
