SWAT team nabs suspect in Lakewood homicide

Staff writerJune 21, 2013

Officers from Pierce County’s Metro SWAT team Friday arrested a man suspected of being involved in a Lakewood homicide, authorities said.

The bust took place in Fife sometime before 9 a.m.

Law enforcement officials were tight-lipped about the arrest, saying only that the man was taken into custody without incident.

Prosecutor Mark Lindquist confirmed the man is a potential suspect in the shooting of Jaime Diaz-Solis.

Diaz-Solis, 32, was shot in the torso at the Greenwood Apartments on Nov. 12. At the time, Lakewood police said drug trafficking might have played a role in the incident, but they made no arrests.

Diaz-Solis’ roommate, Juan Hidalgo-Mendoza, told authorities he heard Diaz-Solis call for him just before a shot rang out.

Hidalgo-Mendoza found his friend bleeding from a gunshot wound and yelled for a neighbor to call 911.

Police investigating the shooting later found drugs – including 32 pounds of heroin – and a rifle in the apartment, and Hidalgo-Mendoza recently was convicted of narcotics violations.
