A 21-year-old Gig Harbor man died over the weekend after a 2003 Ford Excursion hit the motorcycle he was riding Saturday night near state Route 302 and 144th Street Northwest in Purdy.
The SUV was heading north on SR 302, when it turned left into the southbound motorcycle about 11 p.m., the State Patrol said.
The cause of the wreck still was being investigated.
Jail records show the 43-year-old driver of the SUV was arrested for suspicion of failing to fulfill his duty, per state law, as a party in a fatal crash. Drivers must immediately stop their vehicle, stay at the scene and assist the injured as necessary in such cases.
Information from the State Patrol about why the SUV driver was arrested was not available Sunday.
The News Tribune usually does not name suspects until they have been formally charged.
The Pierce County Medical Examiner had not yet identified the 21-year-old Sunday.
