The street in front of Tacoma’s Lowell Elementary School is now known as Mr. Dahl Drive, honoring a longtime principal who died last year.
On Tuesday, the Tacoma City Council approved naming the 800 block of North 13th Street after Bob Dahl, who served as Lowell’s leader for 15 years.
After Dahl died in March 2012, fifth-grade students at Lowell organized a campaign to name the street next to the school after him.
Because the school is the only occupant of that block, no other homes or buildings will be affected. City officials estimated that changing the name of the street will cost the city $2,516, which is for the Tacoma Fire Department to update its maps and 911 database.
Grant Carr, who recently completed fifth grade at Lowell Elementary School, said that students wanted to honor Dahl, because he “respected every kid in the school, which goes back to remembering everybody’s name and looking them straight in the eye when he spoke to them.”firstname.lastname@example.org
