Man pleads guilty in hate-based attack on Sikh taxi driver in Federal Way

A 49-year-old man pleaded guilty Thursday to a federal hate crime for attacking a Sikh taxi driver in Federal Way last year.

Jamie Larson faces a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison when sentenced Nov. 5, the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Seattle reported.

Federal prosecutors said Larson caught a cab to Federal Way in October and attacked the driver when they arrived at his destination, pulling the driver’s beard, hitting and stomping him, all while yelling racial slurs.

The victim suffered back, shoulder and kidney injuries and was hospitalized for a week, prosecutors said.

“Acts of hat, such as this one, hurt not only the victim, but tear at our social fabric,” said Jenny Durkan, U.S. attorney for the Western District of Washington.
