Kareen Borders, a science teacher at Key Peninsula Middle School, was named to a regional fellowship by the U.S. Department of Education. In addition to standard science classes, she also teaches an aerospace class.
In 2009, Borders was recognized as a Presidential Awardee in Excellence in Math and Science Teaching. Prior to being selected as a 2012-2013 Washington Fellow, Borders served as a Department of Education Classroom Teacher Ambassador for the 2011-2012 school year.
Borders believes students are not passive learners of science, but are instead true scientists.Compiled by Mary Anderson and Debbie Cafazzo, staff writers
