A Pierce County man accused of beating his wife and dog during a fit of anger Friday has been ordered to stay away from them.
The 27-year-old man pleaded not guilty Monday to first-degree animal cruelty and three counts of fourth-degree assault. He was ordered held in lieu of $20,000 bail.
Sheriff’s deputies were called to the couple’s home by the wife, who said her husband was furious that their dog had chewed on a small trampoline. She said her husband beat the dog with the trampoline, held it down with a leash while he choked it and shoved her when she tried to intervene, according to court records.
The woman called for help when her husband allegedly threatened to shoot the dog with a rifle and smeared dog feces in her face.
Deputies removed four rifles and one semi-automatic handgun from the home for firstname.lastname@example.org
