Staff writerJuly 29, 2013

A suspected drunken driver was arrested early Sunday after a crash that caught his car on fire and injured his passenger, Tacoma police said.

The accident happened about 2:25 a.m. in the 1800 block of Port of Tacoma Road.

Police said the driver, a 28-year-old man, was likely speeding when he went up an embankment and slammed into a concrete wall and then a fence.

The two people inside were able to escape before the car burst into flames.

Both the driver and a female passenger were taken to local hospitals.
