Steve O'Ban named committee chairman

Staff writerJuly 30, 2013

Steve O'Ban, the University Place Republican who was appointed to replace the late Mike Carrell in the state Senate, will now replace Carrell as chairman of the Senate Human Services and Corrections Committee. The Senate majority's committee on committees made the decision Monday.

The committee oversees prisons, social services and mental health, including state institutions like Western State Hospital. Sen. Kirk Pearson of Monroe led the committee after Carrell's death this spring.

Lawmakers representing Pierce County also hold chairmanships of the health care, government operations and transportation committees in the Senate and the higher education, banking and government accountability committees in the House.
