UPDATE, 1:40 P.M.: Clover Park Technical College was locked down for more than an hour Tuesday following a report that an individual with a gun was running after a car on campus.
The college lifted the lockdown at 1:16 p.m. after police reported they were were unable to locate the suspect or vehicle after searching buildings on campus. A Lakewood police spokesman said authorities believe the suspect fled before their arrival.
Detectives continue to investigate.
At 11:34 a.m., police received report of a male with a gun running after a white car on campus.The last information authorities received was that the person with the gun was possibly headed westbound.
"Some information was received that there may have been some sort of a disturbance on campus that resulted in a person pulling a gun and a white vehicle fleeing at a high rate of speed with a door open," Lt. Chris Lawler, the police spokesman, wrote in an email.
The college went into lockdown shortly after noon. Students and staff on campus are advised to lock doors and turn off lights.
The Tacoma Police Department and Pierce County Sheriff's Office were among several other agencies that responded to the report.
Afternoon and evening classes will continue as scheduled, the college announced.
